Zuki put her pen down. “There I think that’ll do it.” She leaned back in her chair and let her hair down, giving her a less official look. “Jeesh, wearing a bun that tight gives you a headache.” She stood up from her desk. None of her subordinates were in the room, they were either sleeping or doing other lazy things.
She bent down and unfastened her shoes, first untying the ribbon then sliding the slipper off her foot. Normally she wouldn’t walk around barefoot but no one was there so she didn’t care. She crossed the room to one of the windows and stared outside into the night sky. No one was walking around and when someone did cross her path they were in such a hurry to notice someone was still awake in the labs.
She ran her pointer finger gently across the rim of the window, watching the dust swirl back and forth around her, thoughts of sleep and rest flooding through her mind. She hummed a song that was stuck in her head and had been for a long time. Memories washed through her, not sad but happy. She smiled to herself reminiscing in the good parts of her past, the ones she cherished but wanted to forget.
“The mouse has got the cat now,” She muttered to herself, chuckling a bit. “But what happened to that dear old cat? No one knows, not even the mouse, but that’s ok, that cat’s in a better place than the mouse ever was.” Her eyes shut, she leaned her head on the windowsill, listening to the sound of nature around her.”

Roren walked into the room, seeing his Captain with her hair down, barefooted, and with no Haori. "Taking a walk on the wild side today, aren't we, Captain?" He said. He had been working all night on his project, and still wasn't tired. "I can't say I mind seeing you be a little human for once." He laughed. "What're you working on?" He said, leaning over her and her work to see...

Merk crept up to the window across the room from Zuki and Roren. He peered in, looking for a Haori. He saw one, hanging on a hook that is. "Damn.." He muttered. He'd have to go on appearances from now on. He saw two figures up, one of them had to be the Captain, and the other would be the Lieutenant. He watched and listened to their conversation, trying to pick up clues...

"Well it is nice to walk all the wild side once in a while," Zuki stood up and smiled. "Yeah, even the best don't always want to look it, we've both had a taste of that dish." She fiddled with her hair. "Basically I was working on inventing kidou, I know there has to be something illegal about it but I don't really care," She scoffed. "Mostly kidou that works wit something cold, like ice, it's quite fun. So how are you doing at this late hour when all others are asleep, lazy little..." She grumbled. "They'll get it in the morning, and what have you been working on?" She raised an eyebrow inquisitivly.

Roren smiled, a tad guiltily. "Oh, nothing. I've kinda just been thinking, you know? Just thinking about stuff. You know...like usual..." He didn't have the heart to tell her that he had possibly made a breakthrough with the Hougyoku. He didn't want her to worry or anything, and besides, it's not like it mattered anymore. The Hougyoku was long gone. He'd just keep it in his pretty little head, and worry about it another time...

Merk took a score in his head. The man looked more proper than the woman, so that was one point for him. And he also didn't reveal what he was working on, which Captains probably have the prestige to do, so that's another for him. So far, the woman would have to do something definitive if she was gonna be the Captain, in Merk's eyes. If only there were a Lieutenants Badge, or Captain's Haori involved, that would make things so much easier...

"People like us are always thinking, Roren, always. So what were you thinking about, wait, don't tell me, is it what you're usually thinking about beacause I know you wouldn't work on Garganta without me, or I hope, so were you contemplating your usualy cntemplations?" She smiled mischeviously. "It'll be our little secret," She put a giner to her lips as a sign of silence. Zuki looked around, she had this creepy feeling but shook it away, it was probably nothing. Her feelings were usually right though, she sighed, it wasn't anything to worry about and she would look SO stupid saying it, she was a captain after all.

Roren smiled. "Ok, I'll tell you..." He said, lowering his head to whisper to her, cupping his hand over his mouth. "It's...a secret..." He said, laughing and standing up straight again. "Sorry, but I'll be working on this on my own. I hope you understand that. We'll start working with my Bankai in a few days." He also got a weird feeling. Like his instincts were screaming at him to shut up. But Roren, ever the witty Lieutenant he is, kept the conversation going...

Merk's ears pricked up. Bankai? That was the standard for Captain Class right there! This man HAD to be the Captain. But he would wait a bit more before striking, when his guard was down. He might be captain level, but a Bankai is nothing to laugh at. He smirked and kept hidden in the shadows. Rangis would be very pleased with him...

Zuki nodded. "Yep, I understand." She ran her fingers through her hair. "We can talk more at length when it's not so late, maybe in the morning," She looked around, the odd feeling upon her. She walked closer to him and spoke softly so no one but them could hear. "Roren, there is this odd atmosphere, do you sense it to?" She looked around the abandoned room. Seeing no one she turned her attention away. "It may sound stupid, I realize that, I just can't shake the feeling." A cold shiver fell down her spine and she straightened her shoulders.

Roren looked around. "Yeah, I feel it too. It doesn't sound stupid." He cracked his neck. "Ah, well, don't worry, I'm sure you'll protect me." He said, laughing. But his eyes kept glancing around. If the Captain felt it too, it wasn't just him, there was something...
At that moment, he heard a rustling, and spun around...

Merk was watching them. The woman was acting more like a Captain now, considering she ended the conversation about his invention. This put doubt in Merk's heart. There was only one way to solve this puzzle, and that was to confront it.
He jumped through the window. The man turned to see him. "Hi there! I was just wondering, which one of you is the Captain of the 12th Division?" He smiled, but his eyes remained focused and sharp on both of them...

Zuki turned around a glanced at the man. "So you come bursting in asking for a captain?" She snickered. "If nothing else I've got to admit that you've got guts, kid." She reached down and fastened her shoes to her feet. "But I don't think we'll tell you which one of us is captain so easily, isn't that right Roren?" She kept her eyes on the man, not leaving him for a minute. He didn't look like an arrancar really but he definately wasn't something to tangle with if her calculations and assumtions were correct. Anyone who had courage to burst into a captain and a lieutenant without and worry, or so it seemed, was definately powerful, or at least wanted them to think so.

Roren frowned. He looked from the boy, to the Captain, and back again. The way he saw it, there were two possibilities. Either this was any other Shinigami, unlikely, seeing as he didn't recognize him, or this was an agent of the enemy, and that's what they had felt. "No, Zuki, don't be rude to our guest." He said, his voice authoritative. "I've told you that so many times." He walked a few steps toward Merk. "I am the Captain of the 12th Division, why do you ask?"
If the boy was a Shinigami, he'd simply help him out with whatever he needed. But he knew this was for the best. To protect the Captain...

Merk smiled. "Well, Mr. Captain, I've been ordered to take you with me. I'd prefer if you'd come quietly, though..." He raised his zanpakuto, "I don't mind getting into a fight, either!" He laughed. This was going to be a test, and he knew it. A Captain and a Lieutenant. The only thing he didn't realize was...the roles were the opposite of what he thought..
