Merk smiled. "You sure you don't want a turn?" He said, turning his head to Taka. "It's fun, and it doesn't take any energy! The only thing you have to exercise is your mind, in thinking about different ways to hurt him. I've always been good at this game, and that's why Rangis always lets me play..."

Taka sighed. "I''ll have to think about it Merk. I've already got the shinigami's spit on me I wouldn't want his lowly blood on my outfit as well. Besides, I've already had many peoples blood on my clothing, ot's very tedious to get out in this fabric. God forbid I waste my time on a shinigami." She smiled down at him. "Not just any shinigami, this weak, poor, helpless shinigami who his people have abandoned. That girl is probably already captain, they've forgotten you."

Roren attempted a smirk, but really only managed a sort of painful grimace. "I would prefer that..." He sighed, as Merk gave him a second to speak. "That way, I'll be a martyr, and you lot will have failed in taking a Captain from Soul Society..."
He squinted at the wall. "As much as I'd like to get rescued...I can't let them put themselves on the line..." He said, aloud, accidentally. He had already began speaking his mind. The torture was breaking his defenses, albeit little by little...

Merk raised an eyebrow. "Well, I hope they do. It'd be fun to watch the Espada tear them to pieces. Maybe Rangis would even get involved, for fun!" He walked around the slab, to the other side. "You know, I could let you go right now. If only to catch you again. The desert goes on for miles. After all..." He gazed around the room. "It's so dank in this room. What do you think, Taka? Shall we play a game of hide and seek?"
Merk would honestly do this. He would be worried about Rangis' reaction, but it was worth it to have that much fun. And after all, they had already gotten information from him. Though, he wasn't sure if it was a good idea...

Taka merely shrugged. "You're far to childish Merk. Though it's understandable but still, hold a little respect to your name." She rested her left hand on the hilt of her sword in a passive gesture. "But then again, fun never has hurt anyone, except maybe this kid, but who really cares anyway." She shrugged again. "So do what you want, I'm not taking any of the blame if you get in trouble."

Roren smiled. Well, not a smile. More like a painful grimace, as he tried his best to keep his sarcastic tone. "Yes, he's too childish. The thing is, he's the only one in this room I'm afraid of. You have to threaten my friends and allies to get me to cooperate, but without him...you'd have nothing..."
And it was true, to more of an extent than he let on. Merk's power was frightening to him, and he didn't want to experience it anymore. But he had to endure...

Merk tilted his head. "Afraid of me? Why would you be afraid of me. Miss Taka here just laid things out for you. She's the one you need to be afraid of. Then again..." He said, his voice trailing off. "After all, I have only had about 50 years to train my skills. And only 10 of those were under Rangis. Perhaps, if I were a bit older..." His voice trailed off a second time.
"But, of course, we can't be dealing with what if's." He said, chuckling. "What if you didn't get yourself captured? What if you weren't being tortured in Hueco Mundo? What if Soul Society, and your beloved allies still cared about you? And what if I didn't kill that Captain on the way out of Soul Society?"
He did not, of course, kill a Captain, but Merk knew how to instill doubt in even the strongest heart. A useful talent. He'd have to thank Rangis for suggesting it...

Nicely done, Merk. Taka always loved to spread the air of mystery and distrust, as Merk just did. Almost like a page from her own book. Though she wasn't to impressed with the shinigami's random babbling about how she didn't frighten him. She could scare him and she was almost at the point where she might, she was at her wits end with this guy. Taka lay a hand on his shoulder, "You don't fear me? Really? Because, most people I know do." She pressed one of her thumbs lightly on the wound Merk had made with the rusty knife. "Now, I won't tell you what I'm going to do next but would you rather think about the pin in your shoulder or the pain in your eyes?"

Roren didn't hear her words. He didn't feel the pressing, or the pain. Of course, his body did, but he was detached. His eyes were wide, and they flashed with true fear for the first time.
A Captain? What Captain?
He couldn't believe it, but the boy had beaten him, so perhaps he got lucky with a Captain. No, it can't be. But, looking into the boy's eyes, he saw nothing but truth, and pride in his actions.
But who?
Can't have been Raul. She said she only wounded him. And Zuki was with them, and the boy thought she was a Lieutenant.
Not Saburo-sama, considering his power level.
As he narrowed it down, he kept coming up with one answer.
Captain Renamori...
He had never seen the Captain fight, and he was sure Kyoko was powerful, but he was a new Captain. Also, Roren was fairly sure Kyoko was less skilled than Raul or Zuki. But a Captain?
All because of me...

Merk smiled. Either Mrs. Taka's torture was getting to him, unlikely, or he was pondering the fate of his fellow Shinigami. He enjoyed making others suffer with his Shikai, but sometimes there was no substitute for good old fashioned confusion and doubt.
"See, it's fun..." He said to Taka, still smirking. "But I don't think you've really made him feel it yet..."

Taka smiled. "I'm quite aware of that, I haven't even tried really, my thumb on his shoulder isn't supposed to be the torture Merk, I haven't even gotten to that part yet." She looked down at Roren. She could tell he was reacting to Merk's words, even if they were falsa. She would expect the smartest person in Soul Society to not jump to conlusion on the words spoken by an enemy. This man gave her doubts. Not only had he been disabled so quickly but he wasn't even close in comparison to the captain she battled. This man was certainly odd. "Back to earth kid, nows not the time to be blanking out. Do that on your own time, not on mine." She flashed her hand across his face, more to bring him back than to actually hurt him.

Roren came back to the present, his eyes filling with awareness once more. "Damn you..." He grunted at her, shaking his head. "I might be here, but the fact is, no one else is. Do whatever you want, I'm done wasting my breath on you..." He said, lowering his head.
He was ready to take any punishment he had to. As long as he could defend those he cared for. As long as he could extend their lives, and repay the debt he owed them for all of their work with him, he would be content...

Merk sighed. "Don't you get it? It's not the torture itself I get pleasure from. It's your reaction to it. If you stop playing, it's no fun anymore. But I guess..." He lifted his sword. "I could always force you to play..." He thought about striking at Roren with his sword, but decided against it. Taka was toying with him now, he'd let her finish...
