Hidden by the darkness of the night, a figure moved quickly through the streets, as if searching for something. She constantly shifted her gaze left and right, hoping to find something until eventually, she found it. What looked like a large dragon with a mask stood before her, howling. Leaping up, she drew her blade from it’s sheath and the howling stopped.
Next morning…
“Dammit! Wake up, Hirano!” yelled the teacher before she threw a piece of chalk at the boy, causing him to wake up.
“Huh? Ah, sorry, Fujiwara-sensei. What was the question?” asked the teen. He looked to be 15 and had black, messy hair and green eyes. He wore the uniform of his school with no tie and with the sleeves rolled up. Judging from the muscles on his arms, one could guess that he was very fit.
And so, the day went on like this with every teacher complaining about him and his sleep problems. Eventually, when the school day ended, he began packing his bags and walked out of the school. At the front of the school, he turned to his friends, consisting of a short boy with short, brown hair wearing fingerless gloves who held a basketball in his hands named Fujiwara Kyo, the teacher’s son, a tanned girl with long brown hair and glasses (As well as big breasts, as noted many times by Kyo) named Nazoko Rika and a tall boy with long, dirty-blonde hair in a pony-tail named Kamiji Takauji.
“Well guys, see ya” he told the group, who all waved goodbye as he walked home. It was same old same old for Hirano Kenji, student of Karakura High. He slung his bag over his shoulder as he walked and soon enough, he was at the train station. After a few minutes of trying to find his ticket, he eventually reached the platform of the Express Hover Train or EHT and got on, taking a seat at the end of the mostly empty cart. Sighing, he took out his music player and put the earphones into his ears and started listening to his music.
‘Man, what the hell is going on? I keep hearing roaring at night so I haven’t gotten enough sleep lately. What could possibly make all that noise? It’d have to be some giant monster to make a roar that loud…’ he thought as the train began moving again after it’s first stop.
There was a light tap on his shoulder and he turned his head around to see a young woman with orange hair in a long braid and gray-blue eyes. She seemed to be in his school but he didn’t recognize her.
“Can I help you?” he asked.
“May I sit here?” was her response. He nodded and moved his bag so that she could sit down.
“Thanks. Hey, that’s our school uniform! Are you in my class? I’m Kurosaki Yuugao” she introduced herself.
“I’m Hirano Kenji. I’m sorry, I don’t recognize you. Are you new or something?”
“Kinda, I’ve always lived in Karakura but I used to go to a different school. You’re the one that’s always sleeping in class right?”
“Yeah, I am…”
“Really? That’s amazing!”
“Yeah… Wait, what was that?”
“I said it’s amazing! I’d never have the guts to do something like that! You’re so rebellious!”
Kenji could only raise an eyebrow at that. She was definitely… strange, to say the least. As the train stopped, he realized that it was his stop and stood up.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, Yuugao-san. See ya” he told her as he walked off the train. Well, at least he now had another friend. That was something new about today. As he walked home, he began to listen to music again, seeing as he had nothing else to do.
A while later…
“I’m home” Kenji announced as he entered the door of his home, only to be tackled to the ground and hugged by a woman about one or two years older than him with long, wavy black hair and green eyes like him.
“Hiya Kenji! I was soooooo lonely here without anyone! I’m glad you’re back!” she told him, squeezing him tightly.
“Tsukiko-Nee-chan! Get off! I can’t breathe!” he yelled back, causing her to let go of him and get up.
“Heheh, sorry about that. I just get so lonely in bed all day”
“You say that every day. Besides, shouldn’t you be in bed now? You know how ill you are”
Sighing, Tsukiko walked back to her room where she closed the door after her and turned off the lights.
Kenji smiled a bit. At least she never changed. The only thing he wanted about her to change was for her health to change for the better. She had always been very frail growing up and had to be home-schooled as a result. She wasn’t even allowed go outside on the doctor’s orders.
Walking upstairs to his room, he got changed into a pair of jeans with black shoes and a white, short-sleeved shirt with a red, sleeveless jacket over it. Since Tsukiko was the only one in the house, he guessed his mother, Junko, and his father, Kentaro, were both out somewhere, possibly to get some shopping done.
Walking back downstairs, he began to speak again. “I’m heading out to get some take-out! Want anything Nee-chan?” he asked.
“Ooh! Get me some Inari-zushi! I haven’t had any in ages!”
With that, Kenji walked out the door with the order in mind. Locking the door behind him, he walked along the streets. It was around six at this point and it was slowly getting dark. Not that it mattered, he had been out much later in his lifetime hanging out with Kyo, Rika and Takauji. He was just two blocks away from the fast-food restaurant when he heard a roar. The sheer loudness of it caused him to hold his ears in pain.
“What the hell was that?” he wondered. Looking up, he regretted going out. Flying towards him was a large, pteradactyl-like creature with a mask and a hole in it’s chest. He stood no chance as he was suddenly knocked aside by it’s tackle, thrown into the wall at high speeds. He slowly got up and he looked at the creature. Something was wrong. He couldn’t place his finger on it, but something was wrong. Immediately, he realized it. He wasn’t bleeding. Why? Looking around, he saw himself, lying in a pool of blood. No one else was around so it couldn’t be anyone but him. There was also a chain linking him to… Well, himself.
Hearing the roar again, he turned back to the creature to see it coming at him. Letting out a frightened yell, he raised his arms to defend himself. However, the attack never came.
Lowering his arms, he looked ahead to see Yuugao holding a sword, having blocked the attack with it. She pushed off the Hollow and waited as it flew back to prepare for a second attack.
“Wha? What the-“
“Don’t be alarmed, Kenji-kun! This is a Hollow! An evil spirit! Please, leave it to me! My family has been doing this for generations!” Yuugao spoke.
He was confused. Evil spirits? Evil spirits were attacking him? But why? He suddenly noticed something. Yuugao was wearing a black kimono with a white belt and a sheath in her belt in addition to wielding a sword. He watched as she stood there, focused on the beast.
“Yuugao-san, my body! Why is it-“ he asked.
“Don’t be alarmed! You’re still alive! Just-!” she was cut off as she was suddenly hit in the back while she was talking to him by some weird blast. She fell to her knees, her back burnt by the attack, and dropped her sword. Kenji’s eyes widened. The Hollow roared. It seemed all was over now.
“Yuugao-san!” he yelled. Seeing the Hollow fly towards her, he immediately stood in the way of the attack.
“Kenji-kun! Don’t! You’re-” but she stopped. The strangest thing was happening. She could feel a huge reiatsu. And she meant huge. It was one of the largest she had felt. And it was coming from him. As the Hollow came, Kenji picked her up and jumped to the wall before kicking off it and leaping over the Hollow, his Chain of Fate wrapping around the Hollow’s neck.
‘What… What is this? Kenji-kun… His reiatsu is skyrocketing!’ Yuugao thought as he landed with her.
“Here Hollow! Have a taste of this!” he yelled as he pulled on the chain, choking the Hollow. However, the Hollow roared and suddenly, it broke free of the chains before turning back to Kenji and roaring.
“Kenji-kun, it’s no use! The only way to defend yourself from it is to become a Shinigami like me and we don’t have time! You have to-“ she was cut off however as she saw the Hollow gather reiatsu to it’s mouth. “Run!” she yelled, but Kenji stood there. As the Hollow fired it’s attack, there was a large flash as it seemingly connected, causing Yuugao to cover her eyes.
However, she suddenly felt something put her down gently and opened her eyes to see Kenji wearing a black kimono just like hers with bandages on his wrists and hands. In his hands was a katana with a star-shaped hilt, white hilt-wrapping and white blade. Dangling from the bottom of the hilt was a small ornament shaped like the sun.
‘Of course… He broke his chain earlier so when confronted with danger, his reiatsu began to increase until he became a Shinigami...’ Yuugao thought as she looked up at Kenji, who was smiling at her.
“Yuugao-san… You don’t know this but I have a sister. And she’s very ill. I’ve always had to look after her with my parents, so I decided that I would do everything to protect her” he started as the Hollow began charging at him.
“Kenji-“
“Kyo, Takeshi, Rika… They’re all friends. And over time, I realized I wanted to protect them too…” he continued as it neared.
“Kenji-kun!”
“And you, Yuugao-san. I want to protect you too” he told her before turning around and swinging his Zanpakutoh. “So let me protect you!” he yelled as the blade sliced right through the Hollow’s head, resulting in a flash of light as the Hollow disintegrated into nothing.
“Kenji-kun… You-! That was-!... Thank you, Kenji-kun” Yuugao told him.
“Heh, not bad for one of these Shinigami eh?” he asked, only to fall over. However, lying on the ground, tired, he let out a laugh and Yuugao joined in.
“Well, you should really learn to hold back but I think that’s good enough for now” Yuugao replied as the two laughed, happy that they were still alive.

Well, could any of you please tell me what you think? I've been trying to come up with a Bleach Fanfic for a while but, while I do have an idea of what the first chapter is like, I'm not sure if I managed to write a good first chapter. I don't expect to write an amazing first chapter either but I want a fairly decent one, at least.
And yes, it is based on this RPG forum. Or rather, the forum is based on it. This Bleach fanfic has been in my head for a while. (Don't worry, I won't steal your characters, obviously).
But anyway, I'm open to anything but flames. That is, constructive criticism, suggestions, etc.
