Roren watched what was going on around him. The sweet smell of research enticed him, as he got ready to use some of the facilities himself. He walked over to one of the researchers, and engaged in a little small talk with him. Afterward, he sat down at a bench, and began drawing diagrams of different things. He envisioned an easier way to open a gate to the world of the living. A way for Shinigami to use Garganta. He even speculated as to how Urahara had made the Hôgyoku.
He became lost in his ideas. By now, he had filled several large sheets with diagrams, hypotheses, and possible downfalls to his ideas. He yawned. Thinking for so long could be tiring when you're done, but it's hard not to get caught up in it...

Zuki walked into the labs. She had been up all night doing research and wasn’t even close to being done, but she could stay up pretty late. She shook her Captain’s haori off her shoulders and hung it on a hook, she didn’t want it getting in a way. She walked across the floor, occasionally checking papers her subordinates had been working on. The subordinates who were sleeping while she was still awake. She leaned over one paper and scribbled out something that was completely wrong and switched it with something else. Mistakes like these infuriated her, luckily for them there was no name on the paper.
She turned around and saw her lieutenant, she hadn’t noticed him before but she was tired and it didn’t surprise her. She crossed the floor over to him and leaned over to look at what he was doing. “What are you working on Roren?” She asked, though she knew just by looking at the diagrams but decided to be nice and ask anyways and if she was lucky she might catch a mistake or something like that, but he was smart so she doubted it.

Roren nearly jumped when he heard his Captain. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't notice you. Nothing much, just what I've been thinking about. After all...Soul Society's going to need some help from our department if something comes up." He looked over his shoulder at her. "Ma'am...are the rumors true? I've heard tell that there's been a new order from Central 46...could you tell me what it is?"
Roren hoped she would tell him, but doubted it. Most Captains were uptight about that sort of thing. Granted, he wasn't sure if his Captain liked him or not, but he didn't think it mattered. As he awaited her reply, he began scribbling on the paper again...this time it was his thoughts on the manifestation of a zanpakuto, and how to bring it out and KEEP it out, expanding on Urahara's original invention, the Tenshintai...

Zuki shrugged then looked down at him paper. She grabbed a pen and crossed out some of his work, replacing it with some of hers. “Yes, they’re war time orders. All shinigami are allowed to carry their zanpakutoh.” She lifted her pen. “You had the formula wrong.” She explained and put the pen down. “Roren, I need you to keep an eye on the other subordinates, I need you to make sure they don’t panic, and if they do you’ll need to calm them down and keep them to their work.” She took a breath. “All the captains are going to be very busy from now on, at least I am, and I won’t have time to baby sit them, you’ll need to take near full responsibility of the squad. This doesn’t mean you can shirk your responsibilities though, not that I think you would, seeing as we’re the only ones currently awake.” She laughed a bit. “I’ll also need you to monitor their work, if you have any question feel free to ask, but I advise you don’t have many questions.” She sat down. “Can you handle it?”She didn’t think little of him, and she knew, even he thought it was too much that he would probably agree anyways, most lieutenants were like that. If your captain asks you to do something personally than you should do it without fail. At least that was the rule in her squad.

Roren was embarrassed that he had messed up the formula. "Of course, ma'am. That's not much. Don't you have something else I could do?" He laughed. He often needed something to keep him busy. "After all, you just said I couldn't ask questions. I'll need something to take up that time." He admired his Captain, for sure. She was possibly the only person in Soul Society that was smarter than he was. That was why she ran things, and he helped her. Not that he cared much. To be honest, he preferred it this way. Captains had too much responsibility.
"Also...why are you up so late? Working on something? If so, I could help out. These aren't important, just busy work..." He wanted to help, but yet again, he doubted she would accept. Is she was anything like he was, she would want to work on such things alone and without intrusion. Still, it was polite to offer. And Roren wasn't about to make it look like he didn't enjoy his duty...

Zuki smiled. “Yes, I’ve been working all night on developing Garganta for a shinigami to use.” Normally she wouldn’t be talking about this to any of her subordinates but Roren was smart and she trusted him for the most part, besides, it would be easier and faster the work together with someone and she had the order to get this done as quickly as possible. “And I normally can’t sleep anyways, but that’s none of your concern.” She thought for a moment about everything that would happen, about the chaos and destruction and how it was just like the life she had lived, like the secrets that she held. “Roren, as a preparation for the future if an attack does some on the soul society I want you to delete all the files from the lab. Burn all the papers and diagrams, everything, we can’t risk a drop of information getting into enemy hands. I have it all save on my personal files, only by my password so no information will be lost but you NEED to destroy everything. I cannot even begin to stress how essential this might be to the victory among shinigami.” She turned away from him. “Don’t let anyone see the important files without my permission, only our squad may look on them and even then be careful. There have often been traitors in the soul society and under no circumstances can the information in this place fall to them. Am I understood?”

Roren sat, with a shocked look on his face, for a good second. He could not fathom the destruction of all of these files. But he knew she was right, and thus, agreed. "Yes, I'll do it, Captain." He now truly wished there was to be no attack. As much as she would have copies of these files, there was nothing quite like files for public use.
"Garganta, huh? I've actually been working on just that tonight. Would you like to compare notes...or do you just want to keep it to yourself? I don't mind..." He wanted to speak of research, not of destruction of said research. He wanted to work on something. He wanted...to think...

“Oh course we can compare notes.” She could tell she wasn’t the only one who wanted to get of the subject. Zuki wondered if it bothered him, if he was uneasy about the danger they were all in, the danger she had always been in. Despite what fate said she had always told herself that she wasn’t an evil person, she truly believed that now. She had put the past behind her so long ago but will evil looming over their every step she couldn’t help but remember and remember was the last thing she wanted to do.
She tightened the bun that held up her hair and re-tied the ribbon. “Alright, let’s see what you have.” He grabbed some of her own paperwork that was lying on the floor. “The garganta tears open the dimensional fabric separating the worlds, revealing a tunnel of whirling, torrential energy that must be focused and solidified to create a discernible pathway, as you should already know. We need to decide on a safe way to do that same technique without creating some sort of mass, er, apocalypse. That holds itself to be self evident… any suggestions?”

Roren thought for a moment. "Well, we can tear holes that bring us to the world of the living, obviously. And all dimensions tend to share similar features. So, they all must be connected, somehow. We know Shinigami can do it, from our experiences with Aizen in the past. I suggest that all energy flows in a certain order throughout dimensions."
He pointed to one of his diagrams. "There are many things that are examples of this transfer. For instance, heat flows to that which is cold. Gas changes to liquid, and solid, depending on temperature. So, based on this premise, perhaps spiritual travel works the same way."
He sighed, he knew it was a stretch, but he had been thinking this for years. "Ice naturally melts to water, correct? Therefore, each path has it's own tendency. To turn water to ice takes outside force. Perhaps, traveling to the world of the living is easy for us because of our duty, and our purpose, in that world. However, to journey to Hueco Mundo is not in a Shinigami's interests. Therefore, we need to force open a hole, probably by using a technique similar to what forces a zanpakuto to manifest itself."
He thought for a second. "If you think about it, perhaps energy flows in a chain. Perhaps it flows from Soul Society, to the world of the living, to Hueco Mundo, in a giant connection. MAYBE a ritual in the world of the living would make things easier..."

Zuki pondered this notion for a moment. “Yes, that would make a great deal of sense. If there is a connection between the three, erm, worlds than there may be a connection between them, some sort of pathway. If we could gain access to that it may be the answer. Here,” She pulled out a diagram. “Here is the Soul Society, here is Heuco Mundo and here is the human world. It is natural that shinigami go to the human world, so can Arrancar and the inhabitants of Heuco Mundo. That suggests that there are defiantly ways of transport. They can get back to Heuco Mundo as we can get back to the soul society which proves there are ways to get back as well.” She sighed.
“Now let’s see…arrancar have hollow parts, shinigami don't. It could be that substance that would prevent us from using Garganta, if that is the case then we’d have to enable it for shinigami to use. This would take a while. There is still a chance that the theory is wrong though, which might make it easier or more difficult depending on the thesis.” She looked at a few papers. “I believe that is logical that shinigami should be able to use Garganta, that it is not impossible.” She sighed. “Hollows feed on humans or occasionally other hollows, it might be a dietary problem, but those chances are slim. We need to decipher some way to tear open the fabrics of dimensions. Now let’s think. The senkai gates allow us to travel between dimensions but we would need to do that spontaneously without creating a massive destruction. A destruction may occur if we say, tear the fabrics the wrong way, that is where it fits into a pathway.”
“Think, if you pull on a parchment the same way as the fibers it does not tear but bends and crinkles, if you tear along the fibers it rips. That’s the effect we are searching for but if we tear the wrong way then the dimensions might collapse on us…self explanatory, that would be a crisis. If that happened there is a chance that the world would possible collapse into each other creating either a vortex or just plain old destruction.”

"Well, perhaps our very being is what collapses the path. Remember, a Shinigami's spitual energy is different than that of a human. And that much different from a Hollow. Perhaps, to travel to Hueco Mundo, one has to disrupt the signal, and make themselves appear hollow. Perhaps through some sort of dark energy, similar to Cero..." He had seen how chanelling energy might be key, but he wondered where they would be able to get energy similar to that of Cero, or Bala...or any other Hollow spell, for that matter...

Zuki nodded. “That is a possibility, but as of now, most everything is.” She looked at a few papers scatted in the work space. “Genius, pure genius. It’s amazing that it is completely natural for and arrancar to know how to do this but it takes the two of the smartest shinigami a lot to figure it out, and not with ease at that.” She let out a small chuckled. “But what can we expect, they are advanced in was we aren’t and in cases we are advanced in ways they aren’t.” She sighed and leaned on one of her knees. “It may be that the very being of a shinigami is what makes it practically impossible for us to get through, but not completely. Shinigami can travel through a senkai gate which makes it obvious that we can travel from world to world. We just have to think what ability does the senkai give us, or automatically has that allows us to travel and we would need to morph that into a way we could travel without it.” She groaned. “This is all so troublesome.” Zuki bit her bottom lip.

Roren thought for a second. "Well, during our travel to the living world, some of us are changed during the process. We high ranked Shinigami are given limiters, which proves that something DOES occur..." He scratched his head. "I can think of one thing that is different..." He put a hand to his chest. "The hollows...possess holes. This absense of being may be their ticket through. And for a Shinigami to go through, my guess is they'd need to use their spiritual pressure to simply force themselves on through. Think about it, not many Shinigami have used Garganta. I can only count Aizen, Ichimaru, and Tousen. Ichimaru and Tousen were Captain level, and Aizen was beyond that. That could be the explanation..."

"So you're saying it could possibly be a level of rank and the amount of spiritual pressure of that rank? Yes that would make decent sense. Yes, it most certainly would.” She nodded. “Good idea Roren, that makes a great amount of sense.” She beamed with pride then abandoned it to go back to her work. “It that is the case than only captains and select few lieutenants would be able to use this technique, which makes our job harder than I would like it to be essentially,” She frowned. “Unless we could get the commission to only let high rank shinigami to use Garganta, because, not just any shinigami can be running around with powerful moves up their sleeves, though that still doesn’t help us figure out how to do it.”

Roren smirked. "Well, the fact is, I'm thinking that Bankai is the line that one must cross to achieve Garganta. It seems as though that's what the higher level Shinigami are distinguished by, and besides, we don't want some low seat running around Hueco Mundo trying to be a hero..." He pondered for a moment. "Actually, Garganta appears to change time and space itself. Bankai does the exact same thing, by changing a zanpakuto or space's very being. Perhaps if we transmit a similar energy from our pressure not INTO the space, but AT the space, as if it were solid in itself, this bending of time would force open whatever we'd like. And because Bankai follows our commands, this gate would take us to Hueco Mundo, if we wished..."
He smiled. "If you'd like, I can test this at some point. My Bankai is still on it's way to maturation, but I HAVE achieved it..." He had not told anyone he had achieved Bankai before this moment. He did not want anyone trying to get him to move up the ranks. He enjoyed serving under his Captain...
